Alpaca Information, Demonstrations, Products and Pen Sale

Maine Alpaca Association

Alpaca Demonstrations and Pen Sale

NELE provides an excellent opportunity for the Alpaca Owner/Breeder to provide information about and sell their Alpaca products, as well as their animals.  This is also a great opportunity for those interested in learning more about Alpacas, or in owning them, to meet a variety of Alpaca Breeders and to discuss the Alpaca, learn what is involved in owning and raising them and see the types of end products that are made from their fiber – not to mention feeling how soft their fiber is and seeing those sweet faces!.

Alpaca Many farms will be in attendance, offering fiber demonstrations, educational information, a variety of Alpaca products for sale, an opportunity to view and discuss their Alpaca sales lists.

Some of the Alpaca Farms will be participating in a Pen Sale.  Alpaca pen sales are a common way for a group of alpaca owners to bring their alpacas to market.  A group of breeders will bring alpacas to a specific site where the potential buyer can view a variety of animals without having to travel long distances between farms.

The animals are sold by private treaty between the buyer and the seller (breeder).  Often, multiple farms will join together to offer packages of alpacas, allowing even more variety of choice to the potential buyer.  There is no auction.  The breeder controls the price, terms of sale and guarantees.  The pen sale is less stressful for the animals and typically provides better prices to the buyers than an auction.  Additionally, the buyer has more opportunity to view the offerings of multiple farms and negotiate packages of alpacas, either from one farm or a group of farms.  The buyer is more likely to find the alpaca or herd that they want and is generally more satisfied after the sale.

AlpacaThe breeders will be at their booths with the alpacas and will show their animals and answer questions, and provide information about other alpacas on their sales list.  Typically breeders will bring their male alpacas to the pen sale, leaving their females on their farm, particularly when the alpaca is pregnant.  Interested parties are encouraged to schedule a farm visit with the breeder if they are interested in purchasing females or packages that include males and females.  Arrangements regarding the sale and delivery of the alpaca will be made directly with the breeder.
Alpaca breeders who are interested in participating in the 2011 NELE Pen Sale, should indicate their intent on their registration form.

As farms sign up for the pen sale, their information will be added to this page.
